ACE:听Welcome!听Tell us a little about yourself.听听
Susie Woodford:听I鈥檓 a registered nurse living in San Jose, California,听with my husband and youngest child, who鈥檚听In听college.听I have an associate鈥檚 degree in nursing through De Anza Community College and听have just completed the bachelor鈥檚 in nursing portion of ACE鈥檚 RN to MSN degree.听For the master鈥檚 degree,听I have a concentration听in nurse administration.
ACE:听Tell us about your professional journey. Where has your career taken you so far?
SW:听Immediately after I graduated nursing听school,听I worked at a small,听25-bed hospital in the Sierra Foothills called Tuolumne General Hospital. It was a wonderful experience as my first job.听I have also worked at the American Red Cross,听where I traveled around the county as a phlebotomy nurse. For the last听10听years I have worked at a dermatology clinic. Each place of employment has been very different from the others, and I have enjoyed the variety of challenges and experiences I have received from each of them.
ACE:听What drew you to nursing? Why did you become a nurse?听
SW:听I was drawn to nursing because I wanted to help people. When I was very young, I hated seeing听someone injured or hurting and not knowing听how to help them. I wanted to make a difference in my community and the world around me. There was no question that I would enter the healthcare field, but nursing was the right fit for me because听I get to听offer direct hands-on patient care. The profession of nursing is all about caring and helping people, and that is what I wanted to do.
ACE:听Why did you choose ACE?
SW:听I chose ACE because the nursing program seemed sensible and do-able. I liked that the classes were听5听or听10听weeks long and that they ran year-round. The college听is听well-functioning and organized,听which instills听confidence in me. I have not been disappointed!
